May Monthly Training 05/20/17

SARCOM met at Salem Fire Station 6 for an orientation to SARTopo. SARTopo is the new mapping application that the team will transition to. Many of its features are made available to search & rescue teams free of charge, and others are low-cost.

Silverton "Prepare Out Loud" 04/27/17

Silverton High School hosted an event put on by the American Red Cross that encourages communities to prepare for the upcoming Cascadia earthquake. SARCOM provided an information booth for attendees, and some members attended the Red Cross presentation.

April Monthly Training 04/15/17

SARCOM met at Salem Fire Station 6 and discussed topics related to radio programming and usage, frequency allocation by the Federal Communications Commission and related licensing processes, interoperability channels, and best practices for public safety communications planning.

Polk Co. Mock Search 03/25/17

Polk County Search & Rescue requested communications assistance for their mock search that occurred west of Dallas, Oregon. SARCOM provided a hasty team that served as a mobile relay between field units and the operations base. PCSO's ground, mantracking, K9, and ATV teams participated in the search.

November Monthly Training 11/19/16

SARCOM held its monthly training at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. Newer members were given a complete overview of Com1 and all communications equipment, including the cross-band repeater. Members demonstrated multiple times their ability to deploy and break down all equipment as well as operate and manage communications for a mock search operation.

SARDUS Certification Clinic 10/27/16

SARCOM helped provide communications for the Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States Pacific Northwest certification clinic Thursday through Saturday, October 27-29. Participating dogs were tested on their skills in area search, human remains detection, trailing, and other specialty areas. SARCOM provided radio coverage that spanned across Polk County from Falls City to Independence. Congratulations to the K9 teams and handlers who passed the course!
